I am sort of a modern day Long John as I have no left leg and have not been unable to use a prosthesis. For mobility I use a crutch or crutches often barefoot. Using the former frees up one hand. While it is likely true that there were one-legged pirates using pegs, I doubt if many, like Silver, sailed using one crutch and maybe served in some other capacity below decks if present at all.

Im English, but my partner is from the southern united states, somewhere which starts to resemble a giant oven during the summer months, Alabama's a pretty sticky place in august, to say the least! As a reader of southern history, ive found the way they'd deal with summer conditions in the past is by using common sense - they'd use cotton and other light breathable materials for summer clothing ladies wouldnt use those weighty fabrics which were fashionable during the victorian era such as silk, and i imagine a few less layers, they wore wide brimmed boaters and straw hats to shade the head and theyd also soak bedsheets in water in the evening And as well as this theyd simply spend as much time as possible in the shade, and only leave when chores or work required them to I cant imagine things were much different for pirates in the west indies, your options to deal with heat and sunburn were pretty limited to what ive said here prior to air conditioning

Enjoyable video. However, many pirates were, in fact, participants in the slave trade, even as they professed the ideals of liberty for themselves. There are no perfect communities, pirate or modern. There is, I have read, no hard evidence that the cemetery is a pirate graveyard. The skull and crossbones motif was popular as a memento mori for gravestones in colonial times, for common citizens, not necessarily just for pirates.

The only doubt I have is bucaneers were not the ones we call pirates but the Filibusters. bucaneers used to sell meat and skin to the filibusteers, althou with the time some of them turned into the filibusteers. I think there's a small confusion with the names.
